Arbeit Macht Frei – “Work sets you free”or “Work Liberates Us” – the slogan was placed at the entrances to a number of Nazi concentration camps. Do you know why?
I was educated in Israel and Nazism took a big chunk of our history lessons, at some point I became so obsessed with understanding what happened there, that I read almost every possible book in regard (including “the rise and the fall of the 3rd Reich” which is a masterpiece).
My history teacher in Israel used to focus a lot on the discussions inside the Jewish communities. MOST Jewish people couldn’t believe the “stories” of the death camps – they cancelled them as “impossible”. The ones which kept hammering others of what is really happening, were cancelled as “conspiracy theorists”, some of them were even banned from their communities. The Nazis, with the assistance of the main stream media in Germany and also in the west, kept spreading fake news: “shipments” of people to “Freedom” was for their own benefit – no matter that conditions were horrible and people died on the way – and the lie was so huge and disbelieving and compliance were so deep that when Jewish landed in the concentration camps, they still believed that no need to resist: they were welcomed by the “WORK SET YOU FREE” slogan, by an orchestra that was playing classical music while the selection process took place, and by other means of propaganda. Even the gas chambers were named “showers” – and to make them believe, before entering the gas chambers they were give some soap … “here… don’t worry… we just send you to shower before good life will begin in this “lovely” work camp.”….
